A Mexican family presented in the utmost
simplicity and directness, is the subject of
this elemental work. What Sandler has attempted
to realize is the person - ality,the character,
spirit, if you will, of a particular family.
A piece of mankind.
Hand-ground pigments were prepared for each
painting session. The family posed individually,
and as a group. The composition and color were
spontaneously developed, and the work proceeded
rapidly, in an inspired way. Natural earth
colors set off brilliant ultramarine and cadmium
yellow contrasts, in a resounding chromatic
statement. One of Sandler’s best.
