Women are seen washing clothes at the
edge of Lake Chapala, Mexico, as they
may have done since time began.
It was here to the fishing village of Ajijic
that the artist was drawn in 1969. There
he began a series of paintings that
lasted several years, culminating in an
exhibit of more than 50 works in 1977, at
the Runyon Winchell Gallery in New York.
Life in the village was full of interest: the
rhythm of seasons, of the fishing boats, the
play of children, the rituals and festvals.
But most important for the artist was the
life and beauty of the people. These
became the focus of a spirited and
sustained regime of drawing and painting
from life. The result was a new body of
work, personal and poetic, attaining a high
order of directness and power of expression.
At present there are 10 paintings of Mexico
for sale.
