MOUNTAINS MADE FROM LIGHTNING
monotype 20"X16"
Lightning in the Southwestern sky has, for centuries,
inspired artists. Here the ridges of the mountains
imitate the contours of the lightning bolt. The
mountains are a negative space; the dark sky has a
visible, but muted, moon. As with many of Hagstrum’s
monotypes, there is more than one way to see this
image. The colorful mountains could also be seen as
an opening into a soft desert vista with a blue sky.
Part of the pleasure of viewing this picture is playing
with all the possibilities it presents.
$600 unframed.
