DESERT SEASCAPE

The Sonoran desert, where Hagstrum lives,
was once an ocean, remnants of which
remain in the rock. Even the desert plants
have ancestors which lived under these
prehistoric seas. The many layers of this
mysterious picture evoke the layering of
time and result from my method of work.
As she builds an image such as this, she
puts down many layers of different colors,
picking part of them up again as she presses
in textures and shapes. The result is an
image which catches viewers with its
immediate, simple design and draws them
in with the complexities of its depth.
