CHIRACAHUA SKY acry-fresco, 36"x26"
The grandeur of great clouds and mountains is the
subject of this exhilarating painting. The Chiracauha
Mountains, home of the Apache, are only an hour’s
drive from the artist’s home in Bisbee. For him
they are a continuing source of inspiration.
In
Chiracahua Sky, Sandler employs acry-fresco,
a permanent medium where pigments are ground in
an aqueous casein-acrylic emulsion, and applied
in thick impastos, alternating with translucent
washes. This produces a clear matte surface, as in
fresco painting, that beautifully reveals detail,
brush work and color. $2100
